Mexican Film LEONA to Have New York Premiere at Lincoln Center's Jewish Film Festival

The Mexican film Leona, the debut feature by Isaac Cherem will have its New York premiere as part of the 29th annual edition of the New York Jewish Film Festival, taking place January 15 - 28 and presented by the Jewish Museum and Film at Lincoln Center.

A heartfelt, dramatic, and contemporary take on a timeless love story starring Naian González Norvind, Leona tells the story of a young woman in Mexico City who ekes out a living as a muralist while living with her more conservative mother. She feels pressure from all sides to find the right man to settle down with—after all, her grandmother was a bride by 15 and a mother of three by 18. But when she falls in love with a gentile man, she struggles to do the right thing as she navigates the age-old conflicts that interfaith relationships can provoke.

Director Cherem will travel to New York to present both screenings of his film as part of the festival.
