Mexican cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, the Colombian film Monos directed by Alejandro Landes, and the documentary film Obscuro Barroco on an influential Brazilian trans activist, nabbed nominations in the 34th annual ASC Awards presented by the American Society of Cinematographers.

Prieto earned his fourth ASC nomination in the Theatrical Release category—after Julie Taymor’s Frida in 2002, Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain in 2005, and Martin Scorsese’ Silence in 2016—for his work in the feature film The Irishman, also directed by Scorsese. His country fellowman, Emmanuel Lubezki, has won the ASC Award on five occasions.

Monos’ Dutch cinematographer Jasper Wolf was nominated for the Spotlight Award, designed to recognize outstanding cinematography in features and documentaries that are typically screened at film festivals, internationally or in limited theatrical release.

Additionally, Greek director—cinematographer Evangelia Kranioti was nominated in the Documentary category for her work in Obscuro Barroco, a portrait of Luana Muniz, the late influential Brazilian transgender activist from Rio de Janeiro.

The winners of the 34th annual ASC Awards will be announced on January 25 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood, California.
