Rodrigo Prieto and Lin-Manuel Miranda Earn Oscar Nominations

The Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences has announced the nominees for the 89th edition of the Academy Awards this morning, which only include two Latino nominations for Rodrigo Prieto and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Mexican DP Prieto received his second Oscar nomination—after Brokeback Mountain in 2006—for his work in Martin Scorsese's epic historical drama Silence, while actor, playwright, composer, of Puerto Rican-descend Miranda was nominated for Best Original Song for "How Far Will I'll Go" from the Disney animated feature film Moana directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. This marks Miranda's first Oscar nomination.
