SILENT BEAUTY by Jasmín Mara López Premieres May 15 on PBS' 'Independent Lens'

Silent Beauty, the debut feature film by Jasmín Mara López, will have its broadcast premiere on Monday, May 15, as part of the award-winning PBS documentary series “Independent Lens.” The film had its world premiere at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival last year, has played at several festivals, and was the winner of a Special Mention for Best U.S. Latinx Film at the Cinema Tropical Awards.

Silent Beauty is an autobiographical exploration of survivorship, in which New Orleans journalist and filmmaker López unabashedly shares her process of healing from childhood sexual abuse. After she discloses to her family that she’d been abused by her grandfather, she liberates others to come forward in a story of confronting a culture of silence over generational trauma.

López is a journalist, audio producer, and documentary filmmaker based in New Orleans and Los Angeles. Born in the U.S. with familial roots in México, her childhood was affected by issues experienced on both sides of the U.S.- México border. This instilled in her a strong passion for immigrant rights, youth empowerment, and social change.
