TIFF Reveals Two Latin American Films for Discovery Selection

Linda by director Mariana Wainstein

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announced today two Latin American titles that will be part of its Discovery program, which is dedicated to uncovering hidden cinematic gems from around the globe and premiering debut and sophomore films from emerging filmmakers, showcasing the best of contemporary international cinema.

The Latin American titles are the Argentine drama Linda, the debut feature by director Mariana Wainstein, and the Colombian film Horizonte, the second feature by César Augusto Acevedo (Land and Shade).

Starring Eugenia "China" Suárez, Linda follows a self-assured, mysterious, and captivating young woman who agrees to work at an affluent home in Buenos Aires. Her charm sparks strong sexual attraction among all members of the family, exposing how fragile their externally happy veneer really is.

Horizonte tells the story of a mother and her long-lost son and their journey through war-torn Colombia seeking redemption and discovering that only great sacrifices can heal their souls and mend their fractured past.

Additionally, TIFF will also host the world premiere of Do I Know You From Somewhere? by Argentine-Canadian director Arianna Martinez. The 49th edition of TIFF will take place from September 5 to 17.
