Toronto to Host the World Premiere of PEDRO PÁRAMO, the Directorial Debut by DP Rodrigo Prieto

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announced today that it will host the world premiere of Pedro Páramo, the much-anticipated directorial debut by acclaimed Academy Award-nominated Mexican cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (Killers of the Flower Moon), as part of its Platform competition, which champions bold directorial visions.

Based on the seminal novel by Mexican writer Juan Rulfo and adapted for the big screen by Spanish screenwriter Mateo Gil (Vanilla Sky), Pedro Páramo is a mesmerizing story of desire, corruption, and inheritance. It unfolds in a seemingly abandoned Mexican town where past and present beguilingly coexist. Leading the cast is Manuel García-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer) in the title role, joined by Ilse Salas, Mayra Batalla, Héctor Kotsifakis, Roberto Sosa, Dolores Heredia, Giovanna Zacarías, Noé Hernández, and Yoshira Escárrega, among many other well-known talents.

This year’s Platform competition at TIFF features 10 films representing 17 countries, with Pedro Páramo being the only Latin American entry. The festival will take place from September 5-15 in Toronto.
