In honor of the peace accords signed this week in Colombia, which bring a cease-fire after more than 50 years of fighting between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas and the government, film production company Burning Blue and Colombian newspaper El Espectador are offering national and international audiences a special opportunity to watch Jorge Forero's debut feature Violencia online for free and with English subtitles in the newspaper's site for this weekend only.
In Forero’s simmering directorial debut, a man in chains in the jungle, a young man who dreams of being part of something, and a militant from an armed group are caught up in violence that they do not understand. These characters reveal the subtle truths about living in a war-town country, and the film paints a portrait of a sick and injured society where people wish to find happiness nonetheless, by trying to live, dream, and love.
