““Quietly commanding, narratively rich.””

(Chile/United States/Spain/Mexico, 2026, 108 min. In Spanish, English, and German with English subtitles)
Q&A with director!
Set in 1992 against the backdrop of Chile’s post-Pinochet “economic miracle,” The Meltdown follows nine-year-old Inés during a stay at an Andean ski resort, where she befriends Hanna, a rebellious German teenage athlete. When Hanna suddenly vanishes, Inés is enlisted as a translator in the search, uncovering hidden truths that test her loyalties and hauntingly echo her country’s dark history. In her gripping second feature, which played in competition at this year’s Cannes Un Certain Regard, award-winning director Manuela Martelli (Chile ’76) crafts a tense, atmospheric mystery that uses a child’s perspective to explore complicity, memory, and the lingering shadows of a nation in transition. Chile’s official submission for Best International Feature at the 99th Academy Awards.
